For the first time in years, trout anglers can expect regular stockings at their favorite streams through Labor Day. Drought conditions over the past several years have kept Wildlife Resources Division fisheries personnel from adhering to stocking schedule goals, but this summer’s more favorable conditions are getting them back on track.

“The difference between last year and this year is remarkable,” says Perry Thompson, trout stocking coordinator for the Wildlife Resources Division. “Because stream conditions are more favorable, we plan to continue our efforts through the duration of the trout stocking season, which runs from March through Labor Day.”

While stocking frequency varies from stream to stream, several are stocked on a weekly basis and worth a visit, including the Chattahoochee River below Buford Dam in Forsyth and Gwinnett counties. The ‘Hooch’ offers anglers an abundance of cool water and a variety of angling opportunities.

In addition, the cool waters of the Tallulah River in Rabun County, Cooper Creek in Union County and Rock Creek in Fannin County also are scheduled for weekly stockings.
