It’s fun, it’s free, and it’s for the whole family.  On Saturday, September 26, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites people around the state to “GO FOR FREE, GEORGIA” by offering free admission to all state parks and historic sites, free fishing on all public waters in the state, free kids’ fishing events and free Outdoor Adventure Days at various locations.

“This statewide celebration is a way for us to say ‘thank you’ to hunters, anglers, park visitors, volunteers and conservationists for their support of outdoor recreation,” said DNR Commissioner Chris Clark.  “With families watching their budgets, and people looking for outdoor adventures closer to home, we’re happy that we can provide affordable, family-friendly activities at DNR facilities.”

Part of National Public Lands Day and National Hunting and Fishing Day, “GO FOR FREE, GEORGIA” activities include canoeing, archery, skeet shooting, trout fishing, hunting dog demonstrations and more.  State parks will waive the regular $5 parking fee, historic sites will open their doors at no cost, and Georgia residents will be able to fish without a fishing license or trout license on any public waters in the state.  Several kids fishing events and Outdoor Adventure Days around the state will offer organized activities ranging from pond fishing to wildlife programs.

“GO FOR FREE, GEORGIA” is the latest in a series of outdoor adventure tips from DNR Commissioner Clark that highlight affordable getaways and outdoor activities close to home.  The series is part of DNR’s “Get Outdoors Georgia” initiative, which encourages citizens to lead healthy, active lifestyles in the great outdoors and includes hiking, biking and paddling clubs, as well as outdoor events.
