The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division recently selected Alex Coley as the new Assistant Chief for the Game Management Section.  He fills the position left vacant by Rusty Garrison, who recently assumed duties overseeing the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center.

“Alex will be a great asset to the operations of the Game Management Section and the Headquarters Office,” says WRD Chief of Game Management Mark Whitney.  “His background in wildlife research and employment positions from different states, including Tennessee and Florida, as well as his work with our agency, will be a tremendous benefit as we move ahead.”

Alex Coley will supervise programs that are statewide or multi-regional in nature, including Wildlife Management Areas, Private Lands, Hunter Development and Forest Management programs.  Additionally, he will be the federal assistance coordinator for the Game Management Section.

Alex Coley began working for the Division in 2005 as a Wildlife Biologist for the Central East Georgia Game Management office, with much of his work focusing on the metro Atlanta area.

Prior to working here in Georgia, Coley worked for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and also in nuisance wildlife control for several years.  Additionally, he spent a few years serving as the Manager of the Steele Creek Park Nature Center and as a high school teacher.  He has a bachelor’s degree in Forestry and Wildlife (Virginia Tech) and a Master’s degree in Wildlife (University of Tennessee).  Coley currently lives with Tracy, his wife of 22 years, and his two sons in Loganville.
